Every QuickBooks file has a junk drawer: Uncategorized Expense and Ask My Accountant. A few entries are normal. A growing pile is a problem — while transactions sit there, your Profit & Loss is lying to you, tax categories get missed, and every reconciliation takes twice as long.
Give the pile fifteen minutes this week. For each entry, assign the vendor and category and attach the receipt if you have it. For the ones you genuinely can't identify, leave a note rather than a guess — a flagged unknown is fixable later; a confident wrong answer just hides.
The goal isn't zero forever. It's keeping the drawer small enough that your reports stay honest month to month.
This is exactly the kind of thing I clean up and keep clean for Wichita small businesses — catch-up projects and monthly bookkeeping, quoted flat after a free look at your books.
