Bookkeeping Tips • October 16, 2026 • by Zachariah Smiley
Every January, the same scene plays out: business owners open QuickBooks for the first time in months, find unreconciled accounts and a pile of mystery transactions, and need it all fixed before tax deadlines that don't move.
You can skip that scene. Starting a year-end cleanup ten weeks out turns an emergency into a checklist: reconcile the open months, identify the mystery transactions while memories (and email threads) still exist, and chase the missing receipts while vendors still have them handy.
Spread over a few weeks, it's light work. Compressed into January, it's expensive, stressful, and rushed — and rushed books are where costly mistakes live. Future you says thanks.
This is exactly the kind of thing I clean up and keep clean for Wichita small businesses — catch-up projects and monthly bookkeeping, quoted flat after a free look at your books.
